Snapdragon was appointed to work on the proposals for the redevelopment of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society Building on Lambeth Road. The proposals will convert the existing office building into a residential development, including affordable housing.
The site is in close proximity to Lambeth Palace with commanding views to the Palace of Westminster. Immediately behind the site is a long-standing residential estate and gardens.
The application faced a number of issues and attracted significant opposition from the residents in closest proximity. The consultation process of meetings and exhibitions, including briefing of lead councillors, helped to define the issues and led to key aspects of the proposals being amended – including the removal of one floor to reduce the height. This included direct consultation with the Archbishop of Canterbury’s office.
The consultation-led changes ensured that despite the opposition group being supported by their ward councillor, the application was given unanimous approval at committee.
